DD and I have been discussing fundraising for the stand of trees next to Abundance for some time and I am opening a brainstorm thread to discuss ideas for raising the money to buy the lot.
Basically the lot is 14 acres (correct me if I'm wrong DD), and has 150K of logged-value timber on it. We think we can get it for 100K, including the price of setting up a non-profit to manage a trust.

Re: fundraising ideas
Tue, November 14, 2006 - 10:49 AMOne idea of mine is to start fundraising circles of people, each of whom buys a share of the trust at $250, OR who gets in with 4 other people to co-buy a share at $50 each. Each person in the circle is then encouraged to form a circle of her own, of people who will buy shares in the trust. We would only need 400 share-buyers and we'd have the money!
When you buy a share you get a certificate, the right to visit the land on certain dates, and subscription to an email newsletter on Abundance and its activities, plus a tax receipt.
The trust is set up with a conservation easement so that it is protected even if it passes out of our hands.

Re: fundraising ideas
Tue, November 14, 2006 - 10:50 AMAnother idea is a fundraising event. B has a musician friend who is willing to give a concert. We could do this to raise the money to initially set up the non-profit. -

Re: fundraising ideas
Tue, November 14, 2006 - 7:01 PMYes, I told my friend Cyoakha Grace of Land of the Blind about Abundance and she's ready and willing to lend her support. All we need is an official non-profit entity legally established to get things rolling!
